The ideal candidate is highly organized and self-motivated, with 2-3 years experience working on publicity and marketing campaigns in a fast-paced, dynamic publishing environment. They will be responsible for managing 5-10 publicity and/or marketing campaigns per season, including writing press materials, securing national and regional media, planning events, preorder campaigns, influencer marketing, and direct to consumer efforts, as well as liaising closely with authors.
We’re looking for a creative and curious teammate with an interest in prescriptive nonfiction/self-help, pop culture, parenting, and gift products who is excited to work on a diverse list of books and products ranging from highly visual gift books to America’s bestselling cat and dog calendars.
This is a NYC based role, requiring three days per week in the office.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute original and effective publicity campaigns for approximately 5-10 titles per season with the support of Director of Publicity & Marketing
- Analyze the impact of publicity on sales working with sales, marketing, and editorial teams
- Pitch and secure national, local, and trade media for reviews, interviews, and features across print, broadcast, and digital outlets
- Create compelling press releases and creative pitch letters to media
- Liaise directly with authors and their teams
- Coordinate influencer campaigns for your title campaigns
- Plan, organize, execute, and accompany authors to events, where applicable
- Manage the design and production of marketing materials and collateral, both in digital and print
- Contribute to social media content and digital activity as part of marketing campaigns
- Seek out third-party partners; build partnership pitch lists; obtain products for giveaways; coordinate collaborations, discount code exchanges, collaborative influencer mailings, etc.
- Maintain diligent records of publicity hits, clips, press quotes, social media posts, etc.
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience in book publicity
- Previous experience pitching lifestyle titles a major plus
- Must be able to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time effectively
- An ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, independent, problem-solving approach
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience and interest across social media platforms a plus

SUMMARY:
Grand Central Publishing is looking for a highly motivated, energetic, and creative Publicity Manager or Senior Publicist, depending on experience. The Publicity Manager/Senior Publicist will be responsible for creating and implementing publicity campaigns for titles across Grand Central’s fiction and non-fiction lists, including several major bestselling franchise authors/brands in the mystery/thriller space and expanding romance and sci-fi/fantasy categories.
Duties include:
- Publicizing approximately 15- 20 titles per year. This includes executing all aspects of a publicity campaign, including managing author tours, booking national and local media, overseeing travel arrangements, and producing events.
- Developing and maintaining close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio, print, digital, trades, podcasts, etc.) and seeking out new media outlets and opportunities for the expanding fiction list; brainstorming creative ideas on how to best publicize fiction to maximize exposure and sales.
- Working closely with authors on all aspects of publicity, including briefing authors for interviews and accompanying authors to publicity engagements.
- Strategizing media lists, creating press materials (full press kits, press releases, pitch & galley letters, author Q&A’s, etc.), and pitching media.
- Manage select major franchise authors in the mystery/thriller space
- Non-fiction campaigns particularly in pop culture, history, science, sports and memoir
- Fiction campaigns in the mystery/thriller, women’s fiction, sci-fi/fantasy, and romance categories
- Read and evaluate fiction and select non-fiction proposals for editors and provide prompt and thorough feedback; active interactions with editorial and marketing teams
- Attend author proposal pitch meetings as needed
- Mentor junior staff
- In-person & virtual media appointments; organizing media database and appointment schedule for the GCP team
- Developing and maintaining relationships with booksellers around the country, as well as off-site and lecture events venues.
- Planning and executing author appearances and details for trade shows, media events, pre-sell bookseller events and tours.

- Minimum of 5 years experience in publicity, preferably with experience working with high profile authors and brands
- Strong knowledge of national and regional media (electronic, print and broadcast), with established relationships with key media editors and bookers
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of the media, marketplace and competition
- Strong relationships with bookstores
- Ability to escort authors as needed, including the ability to travel domestically with authors when needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Familiarity with Muck Rack, Podchaser, Net Galley, and Edelweiss

The compensation for this position is $53,000-$60,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
